We are calling for action to stop superbugs

Government ministers, scientists, industry and civil society leaders will meet in Berlin this week for an international conference to accelerate efforts to tackle rising drug-resistant infections.

Globally, one in 10 newborns dies from diseases that are preventable with better access to existing antibiotics.

The Call to Action event takes place on 12-13 October, and is being organised by the Wellcome Trust, in partnership with the UK ,Thai and Ghanaian governments, and the UN Foundation.

Writing in the Observer, Ed Whiting, Wellcome’s Head of Policy and Chief of Staff, explains that recent high-level political commitments on this global health problem must now quickly become action.
