Project summary

While breast cancer receives a lot of attention in the media and from politicians and researchers, lung cancer appears to have been neglected. This project aims to understand people’s experiences of breast and lung cancer and the ways in which these experiences have changed in the UK and France over the past three decades.

I will study innovations in the treatment of breast and lung cancer and the changes in healthcare policy that have influenced oncology. I will interview people with breast and lung cancer, their relatives, medical professionals and the administrative staff at hospitals to examine how innovations and changes in policy were perceived by those affected.

By combining the perspectives found in the documents with those of the people involved, I will build a deeper understanding of how breast and lung cancer have changed in the past three decades.
