Wellcome and BBC Children in Need launch Curiosity
News / Published: 21 June 2017
Wellcome is partnering with BBC Children in Need to launch Curiosity, a £2 million funding scheme for exciting and engaging science activities aimed at children and young people experiencing disadvantage in the UK.
The scheme is offering grants of up to £10,000 to youth organisations for projects lasting up to nine months.
Curiosity grants will allow organisations to develop new informal science learning activities to support young people’s personal and social development.
Many young people are positive about science, but struggle to see its relevance to their everyday lives. Putting science into non-school settings that young people are familiar with, particularly given that young people spend up to 80 per cent of their time outside of school, will start to address this problem and help to challenge the perception that science is ‘not for people like me’.
To hear more about the fund, share ideas and meet potential partners, come to one of the Curiosity events running throughout July.
