Preparing the WHO for the next outbreak

Dr Jeremy Farrar, Director of the Wellcome Trust, calls on the international community to give its full support to the WHO so that the world is better prepared for future health emergencies.
"The Ebola outbreak that started in 2013 confirmed what had long been evident: that the structure and approach of the World Health Organization (WHO) were deeply flawed. The global community was sluggish in reacting to the crisis, with inadequate coordination and confused decision making. Vaccines and treatments that showed promise only came on stream toward the end of the epidemic, and even those owed much to luck..."
