Funding opportunities for early career and returning scientists
News / Published: 16 August 2013
The Wellcome Trust is pleased to offer two funding opportunities for exceptional scientists who wish to build their independent careers: Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellowships, for talented early career researchers, and Career Re-entry Fellowships, for scientists returning to research after a substantial break.
We are now inviting preliminary applications for these two schemes.
Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellowship
This prestigious scheme offers the most promising newly qualified postdoctoral scientists the opportunity to pursue important biomedical research questions, working in the best laboratories in the UK and overseas.
These awards provide £250,000 over four years to cover salary, research costs, travel and subsistence.
For information on how to apply, and to hear what Sir Henry Wellcome Fellows say about the scheme, see our scheme page. A list of Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellows is also available.
Career Re-entry Fellowship
This scheme is for talented postdoctoral scientists who wish to re-establish a career in research after a continuous break of at least two years. It provides substantial and flexible support for up to four years to enable such scientists to return to high-quality research, with the potential to undertake refresher or further training.
The Trust recognises that researchers choose different career paths, so we strive to provide flexibility in the range of scientific career options that we offer. The Career Re-entry Fellowship can be taken up on a full- or part-time basis and is particularly suitable for applicants looking to return to research after a break for family commitments, but there are other opportunities for flexible research careers too.
For more details about the scheme and how to apply, see the Career Re-entry Fellowships page.
New deadline for preliminary applications for both schemes: 27 September 2013.
