Ed has experience across Whitehall and civil society, including serving in HM Treasury's financial crisis team during 2008-10. He was most recently Deputy Principal Private Secretary to the Prime Minister, and led No 10's involvement with many areas of importance to Wellcome.
Four of Wellcome's senior managers – Alyson Fox, Mark Henderson, Chonnettia Jones and James Thomas – will also be joining the new executive leadership team from 1 October. Each will retain their existing responsibilities for Grants Management, Communications, Insight & Analysis and IT respectively.
Jeremy Farrar, Wellcome's Director, said: "These changes will broaden the range of expertise and perspectives on our executive leadership team. It is testament to the quality of Wellcome’s people that we can do this by drawing so extensively on internal talent: Alyson, Mark, Chonnettia and James have all brought great professionalism and leadership to their areas of responsibility.
"I am also delighted that Ed has agreed to join us on secondment from the Treasury. Our policy work will benefit greatly from his insights and experience."
