If you're interested in our summer internship programme or graduate development programme, read the 'how to apply' information on those pages instead.

Apply online

Register on our online application system. You can log in at any time to apply for a job or amend your contact details.

When you see a job you want to apply for, upload your CV to the online system. Make sure that it highlights the experience, skills and qualifications relevant to the role. Before you apply for a role, we encourage you to read more about us and how we work.

We only accept applications made online and for specific jobs. We don't employ volunteers.

Sign up for job alerts

If you can't see a suitable position at the moment, you can sign up to our job alerts email to keep up to date with new roles.

Make sure you allow enough time to complete, review and submit your online application before the deadline as we can't accept late applications. If we find a suitable candidate before the deadline, we may close the vacancy.

You only need to upload a covering letter if we ask for it.

Adjustments for job applicants

No one should face barriers when applying for a job at Wellcome. We’re keen to make sure our application process is accessible to everyone. This includes making adjustments for people who have a disability or long-term condition. Find out how we can support you.

If you're an applicant from outside the UK, please be aware of the legal restrictions that may affect our ability to employ you.

We’ll let you know whether or not you’ve been shortlisted for interview. You can also log in to our online application system to check for any updates.

We may need to call you to discuss your application in more detail.

As we get a large number of applications, we can't give personal and specific feedback to every applicant.

Avoid scams and phishing

We never charge a fee or ask for your bank details during the recruitment process. If you receive an email asking for payment with Wellcome's name or logo, please forward it to us.

Prepare for your interview

We'll contact you with the date and time of your interview, usually with a couple of options. We'll also tell you who is going to be on the interview panel and whether you need to give a presentation or do a test.

In most cases, there will be at least two interview stages. The interview and any assessments will focus on how well you can meet the requirements of the role.

You should review your CV and the job description. Be prepared to:

  • tell us about your relevant skills and experience in a five- to ten-minute summary
  • give specific examples that demonstrate your experience – we recommend using the 'STAR' method which focuses on the situation, task, action and result of the specific situation you are describing
  • explain why you are leaving your current role, why you want the job and why you'd like to work at Wellcome
  • ask the interviewers questions, for example about the role, team and potential challenges.

If we've asked you to give a presentation, practice it beforehand and make sure you keep to time.

Make any practical arrangements

Interviews usually take place at our London headquarters.

If possible, familiarise yourself with the route to Wellcome.

If you are disabled or have a long-term condition, find out about the support you can get to attend the interview.

On the day of your interview

The interview is a great opportunity for you to find out more about us and the role. You may get the opportunity to meet your future manager, team colleagues and some of the stakeholders.

Do:

✔ Check for any travel disruptions.

✔ Arrive 10 minutes before your interview. You will need to register at reception.

✔ Have a positive attitude. Be truthful about your skills and experience. Keep calm.

✔ Ask the panel to repeat the question if it's not clear.

Don't:

✘ Leave your mobile phone on.

✘ Ramble – there's limited time for questions so keep your answers succinct.

After the interview

We'll contact you as soon as possible to get your feedback on the interview and to let you know the outcome.

If successful, we'll ask for references. In some cases, we'll do additional checks.
