Project summary

The Wildfilm History Project will catalogue, conserve and make available a rich and diverse collection of wildlife film-making materials which document the changing cultural context of wildlife film-making and how it has shaped our historical, social and cultural understanding of the natural world. It will also reflect the growing appreciation of conservation issues and the broad public understanding of science.

We will create a detailed catalogue of the wide range of materials contained in the archive, including some of the most important wildlife films from the past 100 years. We will digitise the collection and make a prioritised selection publicly available through the university’s digital archive. We will also ensure the physical and digital archive is preserved.
