Project summary

There has been an expanding interest in the study of global health since the early 2000s, with numerous universities creating departments, centres and degree programmes in the subject. Despite increased emphasis on the importance of north-south partnerships and local ownership, these programmes are nearly entirely in the global north and focus their gaze on the global south.

Based in South Africa, we will develop a network and series of activities in critical global health studies in and from the global south. Activities will be organised collaboratively by the primary investigator, co-investigators and a broader group of early career scholars from the region. We will use critical dialogues and collaborative processes of participatory learning to explore the past, present and future of global health in Africa.
